About Kathy
Kathy is a Counselling and Clinical Psychologist. She began her career in psychology in 1996 while working in the field of sexuality and sexual health. Since then, her areas of focus have broadened to include a wide range of presenting issues. In 2010, she moved into working initially in an Employee Assistance Program setting, then into private practice.
While much of her early experience involved working with adolescents, she now only sees people aged 16 and over.
Creating a safe environment and developing the quality of the therapeutic relationship underpin Kathy’s work. The findings of numerous research studies point to both being crucial elements for effective counselling.
Counselling approaches utilised in her work include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Interpersonal Therapy and Schema Therapy. When working with couples, she utilises Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFTC) and the Gottman approach.
Kathy is also a Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisor and provides clinical supervision to psychologists and counselling psychology registrars. The fee for this service is included in preliminary discussions before supervision is arranged
